Why Platter’s Should Be on Your Summer Bucket List

Every day when I walk through the doors of Platter’s Chocolate Factory, I’m reminded of how special this place really is. It’s not just a chocolate shop—it’s a space filled with history, community, and the kind of joy that only comes from something handmade, heartfelt, and proudly local.

If you haven’t visited us before—or if it’s been a while—I’d love to personally invite you to add Platter’s to your summer bucket list. There’s something magical about the energy here in the warmer months. Families stop in for an iced latte or our creamy custard of the week, kids press their noses to the glass to watch sponge candy being made, and cyclists from the Slow Spokes North Tonawanda pull up for a treat after their weekly community ride.

One of my favorite things to see is people discovering our self-guided tour. Watching someone light up as they learn how sponge candy is made—something so unique to Buffalo—is a reminder of why we do what we do. You can literally see the process from start to finish through our production windows or on the looping videos we have throughout the factory. We’re proud of that transparency because it reflects our values: honesty, quality, and tradition.

And of course, there’s the Wurlitzer Building. Being part of this historic space, with its rich musical roots and beautiful architecture, adds something special to every visit. It’s a building that tells a story—and we’re honored to be a chapter in it.

We’ve been making chocolate for over 85 years, but what I love most is that we continue to evolve while staying true to who we are. Whether it’s sponge candy, chocolate-covered pretzels, creamy milkshakes, or refreshing bubble tea—there’s something for everyone here.

If you time it right, you might catch the weekly car show, Crusin’ the Wurlitzer, where the parking lot fills with classic cars and even more community spirit every Monday night over the summer. 

It’s all these little moments—watching a sunset with chocolate in hand—that make summer at Platter’s unforgettable.
